The municipality of Eindhoven offers children with overweight and obesity the opportunity to follow a program in which they receive long-term guidance. This program takes place in several phases.
- First, an extensive introduction to the child and the family is conducted, and a broad assessment is made of where healthier choices can be made in the child's lifestyle. For children with obesity or children with overweight who are at high risk of health problems, a child lifestyle coach is involved after this phase.
- The child lifestyle coach works together with the child and the family to identify small steps that can be taken in lifestyle. These steps are evaluated and adjusted monthly. It is a long-term program in which the child and family are guided for 1-2 years.
- At the end of the program, work is done on relapse prevention. A plan is created that includes tips and advice to ensure that the risk of relapse is minimal.
If you think your child may be eligible for this, you can discuss it with his/her pediatrician. You can also contact your local public health doctor (GGD). If you have any questions, you can get in touch with us.
